Banana & Monkey

As I sat on the park bench one-morning breathing freshness and watching the children play while the elder ones were throwing their arms up in the air and relentlessly laughing and, two lovers were sitting under the shade of a tree speculating their future, a huge group of some 20-30 monkeys raided towards me. I didn’t move but in moments they managed to draw all my attention. There were big males in the group but most of them seemed to be young mothers with their tiny ones suckling them. Many of them had scarce body hair, fragile limbs and looked just a few days old.

As they rolled on the grass and pulled each other’s tails while climbing the branches of a nearby mango tree bearing dozens of raw mangoes, three men walked slowly towards these joyful creatures who scattered as they neared. The men brought with them some bananas to feed these mischief mongers. One held the bag of fruits, one distributed it among our cousins and of course, the last man adhering to the religious custom stood there with a mobile phone capturing all this in his camera.

All the monkeys gracefully took one-one banana each as it was offered to them and gulped it down quickly. However, the man was left with a few more bananas and wanted to get done with it. He went ahead to give them out to a mother monkey who was resting nearby but she didn’t look interested. Insisting her to have it, the man kept stepping closer. To her discomfort, she groaned showing all her sharp teeth and sprinted with her baby on the top of the tree.

Wait… what? Why didn’t she take an extra banana? Yes, she wasn’t hungry but she could have saved for later hours when she could soon be hungry!

Ahh…that’s what we do, not them. The mastery of these creatures to live in the present and care least beyond that amazes me and makes me feel stupid of burdening myself by stockpiling stuff and calling it life!

How exciting could our lives have been, how many mountains could we have climbed, how many places could we have explored, how deep could we have dived, and how far could we have walked if we went down to just the essentials!

Mountains Taught Me the Way of Life!

I had heard it a million times that we need to break the shell and come out to explore the possibilities and discover ourselves to the fullest. But, I was also told an equal number of times to learn from other’s experience as we won’t always get the opportunity to try our hands on all. I too were scared to break the norms but there always had been an inner zest that gave me a positive thrust from within. For months or rather should I say, for years there was the turmoil of thoughts, aspirations, accompanied by self-confinement, emotional blockage, and social barriers. Nonetheless, the spirit of self-finding resting within my chest was now roaring and I had to break the chains. Taking the first few steps was not easy as the impression of those clutches was yet fresh in my mind but I chose not to look back and started with my life’s first ever solo excursion to the Himalayan Mountains at Manali and Rumsu.

The Beams of Sun Enlightening Our Day!

This trekking expedition has not just made me familiar with the roads and popular places in and around the destination but also made me aware of the goodness in people, gave me a sense a realization of how I was told not to trust anyone during the journey by my well-wishers and how those very strangers became my well-wishers who could blindly be trusted during tough times; a bright feeling of acclimatizing myself not just to the surrounding and weather but also to acclimatize myself to the unconditional joy showered by all the beings around me. I suddenly realized that all these years when I was tangled in minting prosperity for myself, I did not ever closely notice a sunrise or a sunset, never did I gaze at the night sky and never had the chilling wind made me shiver with delight. Stepping out of my comfort zone was a pleasure that I shall cherish all my life!

Sterling Wood Forest – 8,000 ft above the sea

My entire journey connected me with the realities of life that all of us undoubtedly face at different phases in our lifetime.  Though we all were a team, yet we all chose to transcend through different paths to reach the same peak 8,000 ft above the sea – the Sterling Wood Forests our final destination. Some routes were short and risky, few were long and easy, some were steep, and others were rocky while some were smooth. Many were taken and many were left untrodden. We all picked our paths independently and kept switching as per our ease and convenience. We challenged ourselves on many occasions and took it easy at times. The best lesson that I learned was that you can slip and injure your elbow even on a smooth path and the rocky roads may lead you safely to your destination!

The Untrodden Paths

It does not matter even if you are late for our journey, it is essential to gather the courage and take the first step and keep moving, be it at a slow pace and some point of time you shall make it to the peak where others shall be waiting to appreciate and applaud you. There have been very few moments in my life where I have experienced a sense of victory that filled my eyes with tears of joy. This expedition has been one of its kinds that brought all my strengths and positive emotions on the surface, withering away all the fears and uncertainties resting in my mind and heart for years!

(I shall share a brief travelogue describing the places explored, some daily adventure and few do’s and don’ts during the trek in my next post. Keep reading!)

Rise & Roar!

Lady, I know you carry oceans of patience within your soul, your spirit is soaked into the sweetness of love and extending gestures of the heavens. That courageous lioness within you is resting since long. Awaken her before you find yourself lost into the jungle of dominance and abuse. The storms of emotions cannot let you shatter the conviction to troll those sky kissing mountains that are waiting for you to embrace them ever since their existence. Roar and rise with pride!

Clouds

These clouds that are flying high,
Swirling upwards in the blue sky,
Narrate a fathom tale of joy,
Of astounding beauty for the heavens that glow.

The imperfectly perfect patterns they portray,
Moulding itself to any obstruction in its way,
Picturesquely spotting the entire canvas of blue,
Realising their endless limits are true.

Each one beholds a silver lining,
Of hopes to bring back the hour of shining,
With all the heavy splash they carry to bestow,
Yet so light and easy do they flow.
Conferring  blissful showers on their go.

Upholding the jolts of sparkling thunders,
That who shiver their existence making them wander,
Their clusters are never shaken,
However fragile it seems, their strings are never broken.

Unitedly they embark their never ending journey,
Exhibiting marvels of giving, sharing, loving
With their cheerful moves ever inspiring.
